Spooked 04:10
Spooked You’re spooked by the wind Like it spooks us all You’re spooked by the wind Just like before a fall And you would if you could Un-break my heart But we’ve got no choice In playing out this part Chorus : You got what you wanted Somewhere, somehow You got what you wanted Somewhere, somehow You got what you wanted Somewhere, somehow You got what you wanted Well look at us now.

52 FS Verse 1 He lit it up, oh yeah and it burned nice My Daddy said 'you want to see a match burn twice?' He blew it out, then dabbed it on my shoulder once or twice But I dare you to deny those were the times, those were the times And I would dearly love to dream that I could return to that room At ease upon green suites in a hazy sunlight afternoon Watching TV in black and white, all cosy like a tomb And if you tempted me to change the future, I could not choose Chorus: There's nothing here so terrible And many things I wouldn't change Save for a pain I will not rationalise 'cept for a truth I cannot tame Verse 2 About my sisters electrocution we now fondly reminisce But behind my laughter, a feeling I would not miss If you could somehow nullify, and make my debt come good Why document my actions when nothing's understood I could not avert the time line, not at any rate Sometimes the best of starts betrays a darker fate Send word now to my mother that time's collapsing fast No one here is winning, no one here laughs last Repeat chorus

Year of the threatened Rabbit It’s a big world out there So don’t look scared It’s a big world out there And you play fair Now you’re passing time just to do your best Not even sure I want to pass life’s test Mix it up just to stay ahead Hope no one spots the fact that you’re dead. Chorus: Now you’re picking up the pieces The only way that you know how Picking up the pieces If only they could see you now If only they could see you It’s gone but no one is sure you ever had it Welcome to the year of the threatened Rabbit You got your big dream but really is it? If they ask you for your soul then you always give it I can’t perform an infinite regress Can’t even promise to do my best Couldn’t care less about the face of god I’ll put my money on a trip to Mars. Repeat Chorus
4.
Its gone wrong but eventually death will obscure our mistakes Verse 1 You're too damaged now to love me And I can't recall enough to grieve This city holds nothing for us It's a shame we cannot leave Chorus: This is me not caring This is love fatigue This is me switching off for ever Turning my back on you with ease Verse 2 And Winter is like an onslaught That reminds me of your fail And on the bus ride through Cadoxton OK my heart switched off Verse 3 And for all my potential And clever words I'd say I'm still destined to destroy you I'm still just renting a cage

Foundling Blues Nuclear wind Clean my skin When it comes to find me Make my bones neat and tidy Make them slumber with my ancestors Lay them down with my own kind With a sense of belonging In life I did not find The tiniest of details A meagre list of facts My roots laid out before me All strewn across my lap And hope is like a lanthorn Which dims so cold and cruel And if you ever played my soul You'd hear the foundling blues, foundling blues And hope is like a dying fool Who tells you what to do And if you ever played my soul You'd hear the foundling blues, foundling blues

Mercury 7 It’s a funny feeling when your nemesis dies Sadness isn’t a blanket of lies You jumped the queue now you’re all aboard Wonder what it looks like I think of your corpse I think of your corpse (whisper) Chorus: This is velocity This is better than Heaven This is velocity My Mercury 7 Rushing out words because you’re paranoid Getting your own way when you look annoyed You’re the man about campus, you walk tall But you’re dead now, a glistening corpse A glistening corpse (whisper) I’ve lived a little but you can’t tell I’ve lived a little but I hide it well And I’ve dipped my toe into oblivion Now I’m just plagued by Idiots I’ve lived a little but you can’t tell I’ve lived a little but I hide it well And I’ve dipped my toe into oblivion Now I’m just plagued by Idiots Idiots, Idiots (whisper)

Return to Nietzsche Sometimes we see too much Sometimes no time to rest With arms around the horse Minds cannot bare the test Chorus: In a little corner, I shake and curse the air I sculpt my personality to seem as if I care And if a part of me dies, I make it a feature Return to Nietzsche, Return to Nietzsche Sometimes we see too much For humanity is less Sometimes we collapse within our thoughts Obviously God is dead Return to Nietzsche Your eyes upon a prize Return to Nietzsche I'm everything I despise

about

Cat Vs Bear are a Cardiff based lo-fi/alt-acoustic /rock band, well kind of. They’re all about creating good songs, recorded them in the most part themselves and capturing an essence of a story, a feeling, perhaps a long forgotten memory.

They’ve been busy in 2011 recording a DIY album that they’ve called ‘Year of the threatened rabbit’. Rumoured to at one point have been an experimental Rabbit based concept album that went wrong or right depending on your tastes.

‘Year of the threatened rabbit’ is a collection of 8 carefully crafted songs firmly rooted in an alt-rock tradition but not identifiable to one specific sound or genre. ‘It’s a laidback offering, we kind of just turned on the machine and what came out, came out.’ says guitarist Kiki Bridges.

The album has a strong acoustic guitar foundation with other instruments adding texture and colour. The band used Circuit bent toy keyboards, South American wind instruments and even a shopping trolley for percussion. The ethos of the album was pretty much if it feels right do it, and they did.

Here is a track by track breakdown of the album:

‘Year of the threatened rabbit’ – It’s a very short acoustic track, charming and wistful, questioning the value of one’s own life achievements.

‘It’s all gone wrong but death will eventually obscure our mistakes’ – The single for the album, featuring falsetto vocals, a circuit bent keyboard solo, and a good measure of hand claps. Lyrically it’s the narrative of a life gone wrong to the point of no return, and someone walking away from something they can no longer love.

‘52 Flora Street’ – One of the three tracks recorded in a professional studio as opposed to someone’s kitchen or lounge. Perhaps the fastest paced song on the album, slightly strokes influenced and recorded on the same analogue tape machine used for Nirvana’s bleach album!

‘Mercury 7’ – Partly about the astronaut Alan Sheppard and partly about someone a band member worked with this track features some haunting South American instrument and a dark dual distorted lead vocal. This has got atmosphere you can bag up and sell.

‘Spooked’ – A live favourite and again recorded in a big fancy studio, this track shows off Christoph Polini’s vocals, and one of the few guitar solos of the album. Don’t miss the Watership down tribute at the start!

‘Propagate’ – Definitely the noisiest and heaviest track of the album, quite Pixiesque at times, a sneering shout out against Religion.

‘Return to Nietzsche’ – This song started off as nothing more than a very clever song title, then turned into a brooding dark mid paced grower, features the line ‘Obviously God is dead’

‘Foundling Blues’ – The most mellow laid back song on the album, inspired a bit I suppose by Simon and Garfunkel, and features some nice lead guitar licks. Tackles the tale of foundlings, babies abandoned on door steps and a never satisfied search for belonging and identity.
